Our Goal

We at Mount Hope are dedicated to the concept of sustainability, as it applies to community and economic development, - working with our neighbors to develop a dynamic, responsible, and self-reliant, forward-looking community. We also seek to build new facilities based on sustainable energy systems, and, as feasible, to convert our existing structures to such systems for the purpose of reducing energy use.

Housing

Mount Hope develops affordable rental and privately owned housing by acquiring new properties and managing the construction and rehabilitation of buildings for lease or sale.

Community Planning

In 1995, Mount Hope, planners, community residents and stakeholders produced the Mount Hope area’s current comprehensive physical plan. One of the resulting recommendations was to build a community center to meet the needs of Mount Hope residents for recreational, social and educational services. Ten years later, the Mount Hope Community Center is now under construction. An updated plan, now in the works, will serve as a blueprint for new community development initiatives in housing, economic development, and programs for the community at large.

Neighborhood Improvement Initiatives

We are working to improve neighborhood infrastructure to better serve Mount Hope’s community development needs these initiatives include:

• A greened streetscape and two community gardens
• Better access and improved public transportation
• Repairs to step streets, which will reduce crime, increase property values, boost the local economy, and improve the overall sense of well being by community residents

Sustainable Buildings Initiative

Mount Hope is working to reduce building operating costs through a variety of energy-efficiency enhancements in its 32 buildings. Savings are applied to Mount Hope programs and services and additional improvements to the buildings.

Commercial Revitalization

Vibrant corridors of commercial activity are essential to healthy urban communities. They provide employment opportunities, as well as vital goods and services and create opportunities for civic interaction among community members. we seek continued improvements to commercial areas through a variety of initiatives.
