10th Annual Drug Free and Proud To Be Day Celebration
Mount Hope Housing Company invites the greater Bronx community to join in celebrating Drug Free and Proud to Be Day on Saturday, August 12th from noon to 6 p.m. at Echo Park, located on Valentine Avenue between Burnside and East Tremont Avenues. Now in its 10th year, this summer festival encourages residents to take a stand against drugs in their neighborhood. This year will feature live music, face painting, pony/horse rides, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, a floating castle, and athletic events, which include the Mount Hope Housing Company Invitational Basketball Tournament. All free of charge.
Mount Hope established the Drug Free and Proud To Be Day celebration in 1997 as an effort to transform the drug-ridden Echo Park into a safe and positive environment for Bronx youth. It has become one of Mount Hope's central celebrations and is attended by over 3,000 people annually.
