The Goal
Mount Hope's aim is to turn around lives in our community, giving young people the tools to become productive citizens, and the confidence to realize their dreams.
How We Do It
We encourage the youth of our community, many in critical need, to get off the streets by offering compelling opportunities for academic achievement, career and personal development.
Programs
Project READY
From ages six through 21, Mount Hopes Project READY (Resources for Employment and Academic Development for Youth) offers a variety of programs geared to the community youths specific needs and challenges.
After School Center
Provides children 6-10 years with a safe, innovative environment to learn and grow, with special emphasis on math and language arts along with homework help, computer literacy, recreation, the arts, and monthly parent-teacher meetings.
Computer Skills Training/GED
Instructs out-of-school youth, ages 17-21, in essential software skills for today's workplace. Training in computer usage and software is complemented by a comprehensive GED course and preparation for the GED exam. Workplace skills such as job search, interview techniques, decision-making, goal setting, and dealing with supervisors and co-workers is also taught. Life Skills workshops offer young people financial literacy skills. Other workshops cover health, pregnancy and substance abuse prevention issues.
Construction Training
Teaches out-of-school youth 17-22 basic carpentry, masonry and building skills to competitively enter the construction industry and offers shop training and internships as well as GED preparation.
Career Readiness
Engages youth ages 13-17 in academic enrichment, career planning and leadership development by offering computer training, PSAT/SAT and NY Regents preparation, tutoring, community service projects, college tours and exploration of future education and careers.
Summer Programs
Children 6 and older are offered recreational, educational and cultural activities through a variety of day and sleep-away camps. Other activities include drug awareness, fire and personal safety classes, conflict resolution and career awareness.
